How Does Solar Power Work?
When sunlight reaches the photovoltaic (PV) cells of a solar panel, it causes the electrons within the silicon atoms to get “excited” and achieve a higher energy level. The excess energy formed by these “excited crystals” are converted to direct current (DC) electricity and converted again into alternating current (AC) electricity for use within your home.
Electricity generated by your solar panels can be used directly, stored for later use or released back into the electrical grid.
Net Metering with BC Hydro
With the BC Hydro’s Net Metering Program, BC Hydro can pay you instead of the other way around. When you have excess energy from your solar panels or alternative energy source, you can participate in BC Hydro’s Net Metering Program and receive credits for the electricity you put back into the grid. Visit the BC Hydro Net Metering Program website to learn more about this opportunity.
